Malaysian telco CelcomDigi announced on Friday it is collaborating with two local electric vehicle (EV) charge point operators – EV Connection’s JomCharge and Yinson Greentech’s chargEV – to install more EV charging points across the country.
Under the partnership deal, CelcomDigi’s Innovation Centre, JomCharge and chargEV will install over 100 EV charging points in commercial areas, including shopping malls and street locations, as well as residential areas, by the end of 2025.
CelcomDigi will also promote the new charging points by offering its customers RM10 discounts on charging sessions from now until the end of the year via its Celcom Life and MyDigi apps.
CelcomDigi chief innovation officer Kugan Thirunavakarasu said that Malaysia’s growing EV market has created an urgent need to deploy more charging infrastructure to support and encourage that growth.
He added the tie-up with JomCharge and charge not only aligns with the telco’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives and climate goals, but also serves its strategy to expand its service offerings beyond telecoms “by integrating connectivity and green tech solutions into the everyday life of our customers.”
The partnerships are CelcomDigi’s latest effort to promote adoption of sustainable mobility in Malaysia via its Innovation Centre. CelcomDigi and Yinson GreenTech have been collaborating to explore development of innovative electric vehicle services and infrastructure in Malaysia since 2023. Last year, both companies launched a promotion where new CelcomDigi postpaid 5G customers could get an electric bike on an instalment plan.
