Huawei lands US$97.6m Shariah-compliant facility from MBSB for U Mobile rollout

Malaysia’s MBSB Bank said on Monday it has entered into a RM400 million (US$97.6 million) Shariah-compliant structured receivable purchase facility with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) to support deployment of 5G RAN equipment and services for U Mobile’s network.

MBSB said the shariah-compliant facility will enable Huawei to monetise its receivables and improve working capital while supporting the continued rollout of Malaysia’s digital infrastructure.

MBSB also said the transaction not only marks Huawei Malaysia’s first utilisation of a Shariah-compliant receivables purchase financing solution, but is also among MBSB’s largest structured trade and receivables financing transactions to date.

In a statement, MBSB Group CEO Rafe Haneef said the partnership reflects the evolving role of financial institutions in supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation policy, as well as the the increasing role of Islamic finance in funding strategic infrastructure and technology projects.

“Beyond financing, it reflects MBSB’s commitment to enabling investments that strengthen national infrastructure, support economic growth and position Malaysia for the future,” Haneef said.
